Something Personal: A Life Update

Hello, friends! Abby here. It’s been a minute since I wrote one of these, but since I just finished my first year of college and there are some changes coming for both me and Indientry, I thought I’d pop in and say hello.

This is what I look like now! (At the Athens Film Festival)

First of all, I am proud of what I’ve done with Indientry in the past two and a half years, and I’m excited to develop it further throughout the rest of this year and in the future. Other than continuing to create new (and exciting) content, Indientry’s website will get a bit of a redesign at the beginning of June, and I’ll introduce a few other new features throughout the summer.

Secondly, I am proud of my Gigs, Guitars and Gender series, which I completed this March and published all six episodes of on Indientry and on Spotify, iTunes and Google Podcasts. I plan to continue Gigs, Guitars and Gender with a second, slightly different iteration this summer, so stay tuned for more information on that soon. In the meantime, check out our other podcast series, The Nextwave Sessions, to meet a few incredible local musicians.

In my personal life (read: not Indientry-related), I’m excited to start work at the Kaleidoscope Youth Center beginning in June and running through the end of July. The work will definitely keep me busy, but I’ll have plenty of time to keep up with Indientry in the mornings and evenings. And in these last few weeks I have off before I begin work, I’m doing plenty of reading and writing – if you’d like to keep up with my book/article/podcast/etc. recommendations, I have a weekly newsletter titled “Little Thoughts” that you can sign up to receive.

Finally, I’m excited that Indientry has almost hit 1,000 followers on Twitter. If you don’t already follow Indientry on Twitter, I would love it if you did that, because once it hits 1,000 followers, I’ll be giving away some stickers and posting a video message (with a cover of a song) to celebrate! I’m not great at guitar yet, so I don’t know many songs, but you can vote below, and if you have ideas as to what song I should cover, feel free to suggest them:

That’s all for now. Have a great week – we’ll return on Thursday with a review and on Friday with Indientry’s first single premiere – and remember to be kind to one another and always try to listen local.
