Hey, all! It’s officially been three years (…and a few days…) since the inception of Indientry.
I started this blog as a side project on July 17, 2015, and three years later, it’s central to who I am as a person. Indientry may not be huge, but it’s important to me for a never-ending list of reasons; not only have I found a love of writing and music through the blog, but it’s lead to incredible friends and opportunities. I’ll be beginning college and majoring in Journalism in the fall, and I’ll get to continue to both run Indientry and write for In The Record Store while I’m living down in Athens, Ohio.
Technically, the blog’s birthday was five days ago, but this summer has been insanely busy. I’ve been working a ton and getting ready for college in the fall, but I’m sorry for any dropped days and inconsistencies in posting.
On July 17 this year, I was on my way home from a backpacking trip in Philadelphia. We hiked a portion of the Appalachian Trail in Michaux State Forest, doing around 40 miles in eight days, and then continued to do environmental service projects in Philly for four days. I was all set to fly home until a chain of storms down the East coast left three different flights canceled and me stranded in the city for the night; thankfully, a family friend picked me up, but in the midst of the mayhem, Indientry’s birthday totally slipped my mind.
This fall will definitely be equally busy; with a full class load plus writing for two publications, I’ll have a lot on my hands. Don’t get me wrong, though – this is exactly what I love to do, so I’m more than happy to be writing so much. I’m still going to try to write two posts a week, but if I start to feel burnt-out, I’ll scale back. The goal is to be as transparent as possible about any changes, though, so I promise to post if anything is different; with so many changes in my life, that’s why there have been so many personal posts lately: I want to be as clear as possible about anything that’s going on.
In the meantime, though, you may notice some minor design changes to Indientry. I’ve updated a few things to make it look cleaner in its upcoming fourth year of existence, and I’ve added a Blogroll to the sidebar of some publications that I highly recommend (including Tuned Up, In The Record Store, and Sounds Good).
To all of the friends, fellow bloggers, PR companies, musicians, readers, and artists who have helped Indientry get to where it is today: thank you. Your support and submissions mean the world to me, and I genuinely could not continue Indientry without you. It’s been three amazing years, and here’s to an even better one ahead!
